Though rare, cluster headaches are among the most severe, and very little is known about them. Cluster headaches occur over a period of time (weeks or months) as frequently as eight times a day. The pain is short-lived, usually between five and ten minutes (it can last for as long as an hour), but it is excruciating. Patients describe a stabbing or throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head. Sensitivity to light, sound, and noise as well as nausea and vomiting may also accompany the headache. Other symptoms include a drooping eye, congestion, or watery eyes. Outside of a cluster period, a patient may have no headache symptoms for months, or even years.

Because the pain is short-lived, there is little that pain relievers can do for cluster headaches. As with other headaches, many sufferers are turning to natural methods for cluster headache cures. Some techniques help with immediate pain, while others focus on preventing the headache from ever happening.

Unlike other headaches, cluster headaches are usually so intense that the patient can not help but move. Therefore, the typical solution of lying down in a dark, quiet room is not applicable. Light exercise may help relieve some of the pain, or at least serve as a distraction. Using massage techniques, aromatherapy (peppermint has been especially helpful in these cases), and finding other ways to try to relax are among the best quick cluster headache cures.

Preventative solutions include acupuncture, herbal remedies, supplement therapy, and biofeedback. Of these, the two which are easiest to implement yourself are the use of herbs and supplements. Dozens of herbs are available which claim to headache pain, and may work for you. The most popular supplements for cluster headache cures are magnesium, melatonin, and serotonin. These are usually only taken if there is a deficiency present, which your doctor can easily test for.

Many products are available which may be able to help you find an alternative cure for cluster headaches. Among the best is The Migraine Relief, a comprehensive guide to headaches and migraines. In addition to educating you about headaches, this program also provides you with a multi-faceted approach to treating your headaches definitively.
