Stress headaches are among the most common types of headaches, and nearly everyone experiences a stress headache at some point in their life. These are the type of headaches that over-the-counter analgesics target in their advertisements. Taking a few of these pills to treat the occasional headache may be fine, but often stress headaches are chronic (at least two weeks out of the month, but as frequently as everyday). In cases of chronic headaches, relying on medications for stress headache relief can be dangerous over time. Fortunately, there are many ways to find relief without medication.

Stress headaches can be caused by mental or emotional stress, but can also be caused by muscular tension. A stress headache trigger may be something as simple as missing a few hours of sleep. A diary may help you identify and avoid some stressors.
